DUBLIN - DAY II
Great day today! - Breakfast in the hotel and then we were off to Dublin center. We met our local tour guide, Renee Kelly and went on a 1 hour tour all around Dublin, exploring where all the famous (and infamous) Dubliners lived from James Joyce to Oscar Wilde and even a hotel owned by Bono and The Edge from U2. After our Dublin tour we went on a tour of St. Patrick's Cathedral, built on the site of the original church built by St. Patrick. What a beautiful place. We then drove through Phoenix Park, largest park in Europe and bigger than Central Park in NYC! There we saw the Papal cross, erected for Pope John Paul's visit in 1979. After that we visited Trinity College and saw the famous Book of Kells...the greatest depiction of Celtic art in the world. Then we separated and explored Dublin having lunch on our own, shopping and sightseeing. What a great city. Some of the adults went to visit the Guinness brewing factory where, believe it or not, they ran into 2 other West Haven HS teachers, Heather Swanson and Kevin Dickinson. Now, after a great Chinese dinner at Jimmy Chungs we are back at the hotel for an impromptu party, ready for an early departure tomorrow morning for Cork, stopping off for church in Kilkenny for Easter morning mass. More tomorrow - HAPPY EASTER!
